Assessments

Assessment and evaluation is important for assisting children to develop to their fullest. For kindergarten, readiness baseline levels in the various domains are assessed individually before school begins. Grades one through four begin the school year with various assessments to determine strengths and needs within the basic areas of mathematics, reading, and writing. The Dominie Reading and Writing is used in first grade. Achievement is measured in kindergarten through third grade through the Ohio diagnostic tests and the Terra Nova. First grade is also assessed through the Dominie Reading and Writing to determine growth. The fourth grade is assessed through the Ohio Achievement test. Ongoing, or formative assessments and evaluations are utilized through the school year in various formats including portfolios.
